Someone once told me that if someone questions your photo saying that it’s art with a stiff upper lip usually shuts them up.

PLTD Apung 1 is an electric generator ship in Banda Aceh, Sumatra, Indonesia that has become a tourist attraction. The 2,600 ton vessel had been in the sea and was flung 2 to 3 km inland by the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami. It was owned by PLN, the local power generating company, and crashed upon two homes when it landed, killing those inside.Visitors can climb to the top of the ship.

Goldfish was first domesticated in China more than a thousand years ago, and several distinct breeds have since been developed. Goldfish breeds vary greatly in size, body shape, fin configuration and coloration.

Goldfish were introduced to Portugal in 1611, and from there to other parts of Europe. The goldfish were highly regarded then in Southern Europe because of their metallic scales, and symbolized good luck and fortune. Goldfish were first introduced to North America around 1850 and quickly became popular in the United States.

Quokkas are adapted to the warm climate of Western Australia and the largest population of them is found on Rottnest Island near Perth. Indeed, the island, somewhat indirectly, is named for the presence of quokkas. In 1696, an early explorer of Western Australia (then New Holland), the Dutch sea captain - Willem de Vlamingh, considered the quokkas to be vermin and named the island ‘Rottnest’, which is Dutch for ‘rat nest’. This less than flattering name has, it seems, stood the test of time.

In the late 1980’s during the heat of the Australian summer, the prisoners began what would eventually lead to the end of the Fremantle Prison. On November 8, 1988 a riot happened which caused a fire inside the main block and a section of the original wooden ceiling caved in. When the riots made the news it also highlighted the inhumane conditions of the Fremantle Prison and only two years later, all the inmates were transferred to the newer maximum security prison. From that day, nothing inside the prison has changed, and it remains an important piece of Australian national history.
